Reflection on weblog

I think weblog is a good way to record the development of RP. However, the website is not steady enough, and sometimes it would be out of work and even produced some unexpected errors. I suggest we change a more popular and stady website for students to record the process of their RP.

first hand data

In order to realize the influence of the new system on high school students, the five high school seniors and one graduate school students were interviewed. They are asked if they fully understood the process of the new entrance exam, and they all thought though the teacher offered the instruction to help students to complete all the procedures of the new system; however, they still felt confused when preparing the programs of application and recommendation. Sherry, a Ho Pin high school senior student who attended the application program this year. She applied to department of mechanical engineering of Yuan Zhi university (元智大學). Fortunately, she was accepted. However, another problem vexes her: she does not know if she accept the admission and not take the exam in July to see if she could do great job and thus enter better college. Therefore, we can see even if the students who are lucky enough to get the early admission through application and recommendation, they are still likely to worry if they make the right decision if they accept the admission. Another one is Tom, a senior student in Shi Da high school, who failed the recommendation to the medical school of Yang Ming University. He prepared for so long and all his family members helped him to complete all the complicated procedures and his doctor father even offered hundred of questions for the interview he collected from Internet and books for him to practice. Unfortunately, the department rejected him and thus caused the great frustration upon him and his family. His parents felt so disappointed and transformed their disappointment into anger and let off it to their son. They scolded that why the son failed the application and thought it must be his laziness for preparing that caused the failure. What was worse was that his peers mocked at him for they thought him was too foolish to apply to the high reputation department for his grades were not that good. And now he is busying preparing the coming exam in July with the tremendous pressures from his parents and peers. From the interview, we can see the diverse entrance system not only produced more bemusements but also pressures. Another three high school seniors came from Ban Ciao high school, and they did not attend either application or recommendation program for they thought they did not want to waste their energy to prepare the complicated procedures and would rather attend the CTPSSCBS directly. By the interview, it is obvious that most of the interviewees felt uncertain about their future and decision under the new entrance system.
The last interviewee was Li Gee Hsu, now a graduate student in department of geography in National Taiwan University, attended the program of application in the year of 2002. He was so interested in history and thus sent the application with the grade of the GATCBS to department of history of National Taiwan University and got the notice to attend the second stage of application process. He was confident to complete the procedures of interview and oral test and went back to wait for the good news. However, unfortunately, he was rejected in the end and got the result in the April. Meanwhile, several of his classmates whose academic performances were worse than him got admissions of good colleges. Therefore, He felt so frustrated for he almost did perfectly on the GATCBS and expected that he would be accepted; he never imagined he would be rejected and be mocked by the classmates who got the admissions. Since then, he suffered depression and did not have energy to prepare for the upcoming CTPSSCBS in July. As a result, he failed the CTPSSCBS and entered the department he was not interested in. He complained if he did not have to prepare the GATCBS, then he would have a whole year to prepare the CTPSSCBS. His parents also felt pity and sad that their son suffered a lot form the depression caused by the situation produced by the present entrance system. His story was only an epitome of many students who were being rejected from applications and thus did not do good jobs on the CTPSSCBS.

The RP introduction(the first paragraph of the essay)

The College Diverse Entrance System in Taiwan: Still a Long Way to Go

In the year of 2002, the long life JCEE, the college unified entrance examination, had come to an end. The substitution for the JCEE is the diverse entrance system that includes the entrance accesses of recommendation, application and improved JCEE. The new entrance system brought deep effects on both students and parents. High school students faced the great change in the entrance system; they had to understand the whole process of the system that was totally different from the past. On the other hand, parents of high school students felt worried and anxious for they were unfamiliar with the new system. In recent years, there are scholars in different fields discussed this issue and raised their opinions about the new diverse entrance system and considered the system should continuously get improved. In fact, there were also two different sounds in the society. Some approved the spirit of the diverse entrance system; while some thought the system was deficient and unclear. Indeed, there is no perfect system and every system should be carefully examined and get improved constantly. This paper discusses the new entrance system and explains why the new system is flawed and should get revised and improved.

RP Ideas

I would like to write a research paper focused on gay/lesbian marriage. Recently, a few countries allowed gay couples to get married throgh legislation, and it caused the arguments. Some thought gay marriage would damage the morality; some thought the measure achived social righteousness. Many religious people protested and asked the congress to withdraw the legislation. On the contrary, gay couples celebrated their triumph and happily rushed to register their marriages.
Gay marriage can be seen as a social movement, and it may affect haman life. I would like to choose it as my RP topic, discussing more about this hot issue.
